DIALOGUE

I have heard many a stories

Of different categories

But this one quite silly

Tells of a man named Philly

Who in descent of the stairs

Of a house with two rooms upstairs

Slipped on a piece of crepe

Which the stair edge did drape

You would think downwards he fell

Like any other would tell

But alas!

Gravity had suffered a bit of dementia

And upwards Philly fell, devoid of inertia

SOME OTHER WORKS

RED FRUITS  (Music Video)
2D Computer Animation | 3:40 Mins | Germany | 2015 | Language: English & German | Subtitles: English

This is an an animated music video for the track “Red Fruits” by the Electro swing Austrain Band  Kiss Me Yesterday.
The moment I heard the song, I fell in love with it and instantly the images played in my head. It was great fun to execute these because I never had to force the cinematography.

SYNOPSIS
For the sake of material benefit, this “female” cat romances with a fox only to reveal its identitiy in the end.

Premiere: You Tube, 1st Dec. 2015

THE LEGACY OF RUBIES (TRAILER)

SYNOPSIS:

MFALME, a young forest boy is kidnapped and brought to a strange palace in a place called Airegin, with the claim that he is the blood son of the dying King Obankosi

ANNA BLUME (Eve Blossom)

2D Computer Animation | 9 Mins | Germany/Bulgaria | 2015 | Language: German | Subtitles: English

(Winner of the 2007 Robert Bosch Promotional -production- Prize for Animation)
Anna Blume is a visual poetry about the lust of a man chasing a woman. The story takes on surreal journey dictated by the mind of the poet. Lust and ingestion, disguised in love, drive the two characters to an end where love turns to be a very lonesome and strange place. The film is based on and inspired by the emblematic love poem from 1919 “An Anna Blume” by Kurt Schwitters.

One of the special things about this piece is that we used the original voice recording of Kurt Schwitters which was done by him in 1938. It has run in many festivals, won numerous awards including

-The Ritter Prize of the 5th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival 2010
– Best Film up to 10 minutes at the Golden Kuker fest, Sofia
– Jury’s Special Award at the Anim’est 2010

HISTORY VS. GENIUS [What Really Happened in Brasil]
A parody of the end results of the 2014 FIFA World cup in Brasil
2D Computer Animation | 02:30 Mins | Germany/Nigeria 2014|

As gory as some have found this short piece, it was MUCH FUN to work on.

The idea was born during the 2014 FIFA World Cup while  the unbelievable match between Germany and Brasil was going on. Having started the project, the end results with Argentina delivered the finishing touches. It was, and remains one of my favourite works.

“They Took Over” is a non commercial animated series on the colonial History of Africa.

We are currently trying out our hands on the style to test it with people. On the long run, we will go with the style which finds more acceptance.
This one is in the Red Bull Ad style though the filters did some unwanted job there.
WE are also hoping that Trevor Noah endorses this style cos we love it much.

DIE VERRÜCKTE (The Lunatic)
2D Computer Animation | 5:30 Mins | Germany | 2007 | Language: German | Subtitles: English

SYNOPSIS
On the streets of a small suburb, a strange woman displays a strange behavioural pattern
I just finished the Animation school when I embarked on this project. Totally different from our Graduation project “Tag Attack”, which has a more cartoony style in comparison with this very style as influenced by the fact that I have been active as a painter and wanted to use a painterly style of animation to tell the story. Thus my focus was not on story but mainly on STYLE.

POEM TRANSCRIPT -German & English
“Die Liebe in den Zeiten der EU”
//Original German text by Björn Kuhligk//

Wie ein Grenzschutz wieder
eine Linie zieht, das muß, es
darf geschossen werden, das
muß, das darf gefilmt werden

wie erdfremd dieser Kontinent
mit Sternchen am Revers, wie der
die Abwehr aufbaut, Mutti macht
noch schnell den Abwasch

als im Süden die ersten Turnschuhe
angespült wurden, später zwei, drei
Zweibeiner gefischt wurden, das muß
es darf zurückgefeuert werden

“Love In The Age Of The EU”
//English Translation by Catherine Hales//

As a border patrolman draws
a line again, shooting is necessary,
is permitted, filming
is necessary, is permitted

how unworldly this continent
with little stars on its lapels, how it
builds up its defences, Mummy
quickly does the washing up

when the first sneakers were washed
up in the south, later two, three bipeds
were fished out, firing back
is necessary, is permitted

CLOSER N’ CLOSER (Animated Music Video)
2D Computer Animation | 7 Mins | Germany/Nigeria | 2013 | Language:English

This is an animated music video of the track of same title from the Album “Fortune N’ The slave” by the reggae singer Ketchy Dons.

Normally in 2D Animation, the images are let to run “on 2s” (Repeating one image for a duration of 2 frames) However, in this very video, it was purposely done “on 3s” as a means of experimenting with a graphic style which would not need much of a smooth movement to function.

THE ESSENCE
2D Computer Animation | 6 Mins | Germany/Nigeria | 2010 | No Dialogue

SYNOPSIS:

Amidst the heavy famine and distress which have befallen his isolated community, a farmer dares to cry to the heavens for help but what he receives is far from what he was expecting.

This storytelling  uses the most minimal character design but employing conscious animation skills. This style was chosen because the story line did not need more than this to function.

MEINE HEIMAT (My Homeland)

2D Computer Animation | 5 Mins | Germany/Nigeria | 2012 | Language: German | Subtitles: English

A visual adaptation and personal interpretation of the poem “meine heimat” by Ulrike Almut Sandig. The Poem was sent out by the Literatur Werkstatt Berlin to Film makers asking them for visual interpretations.

SYNOPSIS
Berlin Tempelhof, years after 2017: an old woman in the face of advanced recreational activities at the old airport grounds confusedly recalls her growing-up years and life in a post war Berlin.

BACKGROUND
The old Berlin Tempelhof Airport, one of Europe’s iconic pre-world war II airports ceased operating in 2008 . Since then it is being used for recreational activities like windsurfing, kiting etc. However, before the Airport was built in the mid twenties, it was a vast farmland which played a big role in the life of the inhabitants of Tempelhof. It was the center of their sunday recreational activitieswhich included dog-races etc.

Today, in 2012, the city of Berlin plans to restructure the landscape of the old airport ground and install very modern recreational facilities and one of these is a hill (hence the interpretation of the “bird man” sport )
So conclusively, only MOSTLY people from Berlin will be able to understand it beyond the presented visual abstract, thus making this remain predominantly a Berlin-related interpretation.

PAPERMOUSE
2D Computer Animation | 2:30 Mins | Germany | 2008 | No Dialogue

SYNOPSIS
A hungry acrchitect employs tricks to catch a mouse which destroyed his drawings but the mouse has ideas too.

BACKGROUND STORY
This idea was developed in a flash during the Animation postgraduate course at the International Film School intended towards being part of the graduation project in 2004.
Eventually, it was put away to be revisited years later as an entry for the “Going Underground” Subway Short Film Competition in Berlin 2007. The rough idea did not “go underground” but the final version (seen here) made other festivals with its first screening at the “Made for Mobile Awards”, Cologne 2008

PATTERNS
2D Computer Animation | 10:00 Mins | Germany/Nigeria | 2009| No Dialogue

SYNOPSIS
The search for “greener pastures” turns out to be the beginning of a new awareness.

BACKGROUND STORY
This is a first part of an abstract rendition of some strong migratory issues. A person leaves his/her place of origin hoping for better opportunities elsewhere. However, these do not yield the expected results
In the second part (not uploaded) the person looks for means of covering up what can be seen as failiure in his place of origin.
This covering up then leads to a vicious cycle of migratory steps with no clear advantages for both the migrant and the location which they migrate to.

“Patterns” started as a joint project with estonia for which I won the DEFA, Research Prize for Animation in 2006. The prize was aimed towards facilitating the preproduction phase of an Animation co-production with Estonia titled “Feet Voters” As circumstantially “Feet Voters” met an extensive stall with minimal or absolutely no signs of getting realized, Ebele interpreted her own ideas of the project into “Patterns”

The issue of migration is a very current topic in  European geographical areas, thus this piece though very abstract and not entertaining at all attracted the attention of Amnesty International which endowed it with a human rights prize in 2011

“PROPER FOOT CARE IN DIABETES” One sample of our community service videos being produced for NGOs operating in Africa and the South east Asia

I am not rich but I have decided to use my talent to serve my community wherever and whenever I can. Thus I am currently producing a series of informative health materials for NGOs in Africa and South East Asia. It is not an easy hurdle being that I an financing them myself despite hardly being able to pay own rent. However, this is something I am doing out of TOTAL conviction.
On the same note, as my contribution to the current Refugee problems in Europe, I have started an Initiative in which we are going to make animated German language learning materials to be made available to the refugees for free, but with hopes of receiving a subvention from the German ministry of culture.
The materials will be made available at visualgerman.online come January 2016 when wethere is enough to complete a curriculum.
